I'd go for the X2 4800+ instead of the FX-57. it is far better in multitasking. and games will be made for multitasking in future.

Both systems will play any game at max settings (Doom 3 will be all high for the second system.)

I can play hl2 all highest with 4x AA and 8x AF with it being all over 60fps (over 100 when there is no water.) But this is with 1280 X 960.

The X2 will be more future proof, but right now games are single threaded. With the release of the next gen consoles which are multi procesors than games will start to be made for them.

You really don't need more than 1 gig for BF2.

2GB of ram for BF2

I see, setup 2 can play any game at max settings and setup 1 is for the person who has more money than they know what to do with.

My bank account says that setup 2 is better.

Somewhere inbetween might be good as well if you really want it to fly. Upgrade to a 3700 San Diego and a 7800GTX and for only a few hundred more you will definately have a machine that will run any game for the next year on max settings.

I hope so because the 7800gtx is ungodly expensive.
