Yeah I'v done that before. You have to remember, those wires are extremely thin. Your better off buying them.

lol i opened my pc, and no, there are ALOT more then 20 little wires, i believe i counted 80 on the one connecting to my CD drive...

it's really not that hard if you don't have ADD lol

EDIT: Like i just did one in about 15 minutes. Split into threes, twist-um-ed together and it looks fine. slit some wire covers, but so far so good.
