How can I test the CPU speed?

Hi everyone!

I suppose the title of my post obviously shows I am a total newbie at OC'ing. Most people will probably not even bother to read further!

I just wanted to know how to test my CPU speed and stability before and after overclocking.

Here is my newest system:

Intel E2200 [I know, cheap and low end]
ECS GF7050VT-M Motherboard
2 Gigs of crucial Ram
600 watt PSU

I read somewhere that I can overclock this chip to 2.93 simply by going into the BIOS and changing a BSEL setting. Anyone know much about this?
