Ok. What I want to do is build a new computer with some fairly awesome hardware inside it. I don't plan on buying all the parts at once but instead in pieces because I can't really afford to shell out a lump sum.

I am looking for help choosing a mobo, cpu and pretty much every other component minus the hard drives. I already have two Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 160gb SATA HD's waiting to be put to use. I attempted to come up with my own setup but then I realized that I really don't know much about different chipsets, sockets, and etc. In addition to the hard drives I have I just got ahold of a I/O Magic 8x External DVD/CD burner so I am set in that category. After doing some research I think I would be best suited with an AMD because while I do some gaming I do equally as much application use.

I mainly use my computer for multimedia. I watch a lot of video on my pc and I listen to about twice as much music. It is important that the sound card be fairly sweet because sound quality is important to me. Whatever video card you guys set me up with should have an s-video out as well as a standard yellow video out. The way my computer is setup now I have it hooked up to my television as well as my home theatre system so I don't need any speakers. I am looking to spend around $1500.00 USD give or take but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help.

What do you think about the AMD64 3500? Its around 250$, but with a winchester core it will be another 20$. You can get a Abit AV8 3RD EYE for 140$.

May I suggest you save up and buy it all at once? Buying part by part limits what your going to get, and if you change you mind it will be too late.

Just a suggestion.

Ok thanks for the input so far. The AMD sounds good but I'm not sure what the third eye is, I will have to look it up after this post. I have been hearing a lot about the 6600GT and it was one of the cards I was considering. As far as the SB Audigy 4 how does it compare to other cards as far as price/performance/etc?

The problem with buying all at once is I don't have that amount of money saved yet. If I do choose to buy all at once I would have to wait until mid may after my girlfriends birthday. A good chunk of my money is heading in that direction because she spent a fair share on mine. I was hoping to buy in pieces and parts and that way just assemble when I have everything but I just might wait. Either way more suggestions are welcome.

Well you can buy the thing that won't change in the future like. Case, PSU , Fans and etc. first then when things come out you still have that choice of getting them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that is a rip-off on the PSU and the Ram because the PSU he is not gonna need that much he has nothing to use it for all that will do is create more heat and more wires. The Ram it self you can save an Extra dollars or so and but some with out heatsinks and buy them seperatly.

No, I have that same RAM, it is worth the money and he has the money to spend so he might as well get that instead of some cheapy value ram.

And that PSU is excellent. He could get a cheapy PSU but why would he if he has a good budget? That PSU is perfect for him, it won't generate much heat probably less than most and it will stay cool. It also is one of the most quiet PSU's around because it has technology to stop that bad ripple noise. It also has all the connectors he needs without running converters. Plus all the wires are sleeved and labled for better organization.
It also has adaquete power for 2 hd's, good vid card, good processor, etc. And that PSU has some of the highest reviews in the industry if you read the reviews on it.

This video highlights the PS really well
