i recently ordered all the parts i needed (dfi m/b, 6600gt, ocz psu/gold series ram, etc) and also this heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835106037

well.. apparently i did not look at the heatsink before i ordered it, nor realized that the dfi board has that yellow square around the cpu socket. now i've figured out that this specifc heatsink will not work with the dfi board because of the square thing around the socket. i just now compared the stock amd heatsink with the one i ordered and noticed what kind of fan needs to be put in that yellow square. but i do not want to use the shitty stock fan that came with the cpu. so after i return this to newegg, what other heatsink should i buy. and right now im just angry and cannot find a replacement on newegg.

if anyone could tell me about a heatsink that will fit on this dfi board, i would love it.

There is a all copper version, which is better at transfering heat for $45, and if you are overclocking I would recomend getting the all coppper version. If you are not overclocking, the stock isn't too bad, just take off the heat pad, and add a blob the size of a grain of rice ontop of the CPU for better heat transfer.

so that heatsink will this is freakin' square bracket around the cpu on the dfi board? and yes i plan on oc'ing it and i already have the arctic silver 5 compound.

ah yes, i'm a moron. i can't believe i didnt read the 'Compatibility' of the specifications. damnit now i have to wait a week before i put this thing together.

this heatsink is huge.. are there are other good heatsinks that are compatable with amd64 socket939? i dont want to get this just to find out it won't fit in my case with all the other shit around it

It comes with its own bracket. I think it will cover the first 1/2 ram slots though, but on the plus side, it will help cool the ram.


The thermalright XP-90c would be my next sugestion (as the xp-120 doesn't fit the DFI board due to the ram slots) You will need to buy a fan, the tornadoes are very popula, but you may want to get a fan controller, or use your BIOS to control fan speeds.

well i'm only going to be using 2 ram slots anyway.. so maybe i will get the zalman. the thermalright seems like too much work
