If you get a gigabyte board be careful what ram you get... i have the gigabyte 875P and it hates my new geil ram looks like im gonna have to move to abit. IC-7 that is (cant afford the MAX 3)
the IC7-G can be bought at newegg for under 140 i think, its slightly more than the IC-7, which by design has a few faults in it (ethernet not hoked up to anything, etc)
[edit] and yes you can hook up IDE drives, the sata is there only if yu need it.
