Today I began to overclock the new rig equipped with the E8500. I've read a fair bit, and my results don't seem to go along with the going trend. Is it normal to hit 4000Mhz with your cpu voltage set at 1.225?

Currently im running

9.5 x 421Mhz FSB
Ram is at 528Mhz

I know the fsb and ram isn't at 1:1, I have my own reasons for not doing so. Everything else is pretty much set to auto. But right now im running prime stress tests, speedfan and real temp. Under load I'd be lucky to hit the 50 degree mark. What are your thoughts on this?

EDIT: my voltage readings in cpu-z and speedfan are 1.208 & 1.21 respectively.

every cpu is different so there isnt a exact normal for 4.0 on a e8500, but that does sound pretty darn low

Hey, so I I've been doing a fair bit of overclocking last night and today to try and find an optimal level. At first I was trying for 4.3Ghz with a 453Mhz fsb and 544Mhz ram. I started the vcore from 1.225 all the way up to 1.3v. At 1.3v, I could run prime for 2 hours. Although I want to keep 100% load cores under 60 degrees; just personal preference. Depending on the room temp, i was getting between 56-64 at 100% load. So I've decided to drop 100mhz and the ram is at 532. I kept on testing vcores until I got a blue screen, that was at 1.24375. I decided to skip the 0.00625 increment of 1.25 and move on to 1.25625, I don't think 1.25 would pass. So now im currently running Orthos at the following specs:

FSB: 443 Mhz
Ram: 532 Mhz
Multi: 9.5X
Clock: 4208 Mhz

Bios vCore: 1.25625
CPU-Z vCore: 1.24
Speedfan vCore: 1.24

At the moment Orthos has been running for only 20 mins, and temps are 53 & 52.
I'll keep ya's posted to let you know what happens.

-Chris

EDIT: Orthos failed at 32 min. Increased vCore to 1.2625. Running Orthos again...

did it fail or pass w/ 1.2625? If you want quick test use intel burn utility and run atleast 10 passes. It'll make sure you system is stable in mins. Dont be too scared of the temps when running it. It stresses alot more than prime

Sorry guys...k so it wasn't stable at 1.2625, I now have it on 1.275 and it appears to be stable. Although more testing is needed, I'll run that intel burn test when I get the chance. I've also upped the ram frequency. I've run prime and orthos for a few hours and played games, when I get more time I'll let it run for 24 hours.

At the moment:
CPU: 4.21Ghz, rated FSB 1772Mhz (9.5x Multiplier) [443Mhz]
Ram: 5,5,5,15 1108Mhz [554Mhz)
CPU:RAM Ratio = 4:5
Vcore voltage as recorded in the bios: 1.275

what motherboard are you using?

cpu gtl's should both be set to .63

and one other gtl setting should be at .59

well these are speaking if you have those options

what voltage settings do you have running for your northbridge and fsb?
