Default DVD burner... exteral to internal?

I have a sony external DVD burner model DRU-510 I believe. I'm wondering if I open the case if its just a normal drive inside a special case. When I first bought it I didn't have room in my case, now I do. I just wanna know how plausable this is before I go ripping it apart.

yep... have fun... no worries, it's a typical IDE drive inside. So as long as you have a spare IDE cable slot you good.

My currect C drive used to be an external HDD.

It is just "a normal drive inside a special case," as you put it.
