it is useful having dual gigabit, you can keep both ports on different settings and swap the cable. or if you want to connect to another pc/device and NOT have it attached to the same hub/switch/router you can have your hub/switch/router on one port and connect to the other pc with the other port

So it is possible to have a computer running a dual gigabit setup scan every packet of information for virus's and hackers.... Basically a dedicated firewall/virus scanner for a network?? Meh I don't know anything about servers/networks.... Just curious...

yes it is possible. there are quite a few minimalist linux distros designed for that, it's just a question of making sure it works with the hardware. not really that experienced with it myself

I know some switchs and hubs allow for that and do it them selfs, but I would much rather have a computer do it by it self...
