Default DFI lanparty nF3 Ultra-D unstable or stable?

i heard a lot of things about this board

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MB-NF3ULTD&src=fr

many say its a good board, but others say its an unstable board

as seen here in this forum

http://techist.com/showthread.php?threadid=63999

you can see some people say its a stable board, but other say they have a bad experience and its unstable.

so im wonder is it really unstable and would this board be more stable

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123230

stable or unstable is the quesiton

Well, some mobo's can go faulty, and people automatically think it's horrible. My personal experience w/ it was great, except my PSU fried it, and I was so angry. Didn't wanna get another, then have it mess up.

But I liked the OC options, and it was very ez to work with.

I'm just gonna copy and paste what I said in the other thread

"It's been a toss up....theres people who's had absolutely no troubles with it, and theres been people who's had ridiculous times getting it setup...now you may say "any board can be good or sometimes fickle" but no....the amount of people having troubles with it is very high....they've put out 5 or so BIOSes now and none really offer any huge benefits.

My 6800GT went from 430/1150 to only being able to OC to 410/1120...this is not due to the card, but the NF3 chipset itself....so that's not really just THIS board itself it's the NF3 chipset.

Apparently theres a resistor on this board that shouldn't be there....it makes the CPU undervolt....compared to if you remove the resistor yourself it overvolts.

So basically it's a not so great BIOS mixed in with the boards hardware needs to be reworked and theres already talk of a revision2.

Now I had no problems setting it up for stock settings....however some people weren't that lucky and it can be picky with your RAM.

Also it seems to not like RAID to well."

Don't even bother with review sites or even this site where people have no clue what they are talking about. Newegg is the worst as it's basically 'planted' reviews.

Go here:

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12885

Theres all user reports, and a couple of the DFI reps (Angry_Games and RGone) who get these boards before anyone else to test them out.

There's 230+ pages of issues...mind you most are for overclocking.

Theres already talk of a 2nd revision of this board as it's got hardware problems as well as BIOS issues.

The original BIOS has cold boot issues as well.

so i should save my money and go with a different mobo?

does that mean the nF3 chipset on all mobos are bad and i should jsut look at different chipsets.?

if the nF3 chipset is just "bad" on that mobo can i go with the epox one

no the NF3 chipsets aren't just 'bad' in general...basically Nvidia focused on making sure ATI cards would work well on this chipset and forgot to optimize it for their own.....it primarily effects the 6800 series and due to chipset restrictions I couldn't OC my card quite as high as I know it was capable of...it depends on what card you have right now.

The nf3 chipset isn't just so horrible that you'd notice any issues with unless you have a newer nvidia card and OC the hell out of it.

you should probably go with the MSI Neo2 Plat...

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=43033

that's dedicated to tips and tricks for the board and is basically the best socket939 NF3 OC'er out there...DFI SHOULD have taken that crown but this board is just too buggy for that.

It's an awsome board, they are issues with the K8N Neo2 as well, like almost any other motherboard.

The Neo2 is the board I should have bought

so everyone recommends this board over the DFI, it has less "issues" with it

Yeah...the MSI board is buggy in it's own way, but it's been out long enough to come up with better BIOSes and lots of tips to get it running right like that page I linked you too..

It's basically the 'king of its class' right now....dfi SHOULD have taken that spot with this nf3 board, but it seems like they rushed it out just to shut us up who wanted it.

this DFI board requires a lot of work, tinkering, and a decent amount of user know-how for OC'ing in particular to really get it to shine....even then it'll do weird things out of the blue
