why would everest home and speedfan have between a 6 and 8 c degree difference, consistantly in my cpu temp?

Bigbmxdave: Please don't post useless nonsense like that.

I assume it's because they both use different methods of measuring. I first thought that all programs should use the same basic motherboard function to measure the temperature, but I have also experienced differences between software.

Are you using both Everest and Speedfan at the same time, because if not, it may be because of a difference in the load on your CPU. Just a thought.

Its not useless nonsense. Everest gives very unaccurate readings in some cases. I had the same problem as rgray, its best of finding a temperature sensor made by the makers of the motherboard.
such as MSI PULSE 4

That is not reason for Everest to be rubbish. It just so happens that Everest is able to monitor temperatures, as part of it's overall function. So whether or not it is able to do this accurately does not make "Everest rubbish". Your reply was hardly explaining why there should be temperature differences.
