I have an Athlon XP 1800+(1533)-non OC'd.

Temps are fine (I suppose):
Sandra 2003 shows CPU temp @ 48 Deg. Cels.
Asus PC Probe has the CPU temp @ 28 Deg. Cels.
Temps are at idle. Plenty of case fans(5) + 2 PSU fans.

My only problem is the stock fan that came with the 1800+
(Thoroughbred)HSF is wearing out and beginning to make
squeeling or whining noises. I have removed the fan to clean
the HS so I know it is easily removed-just fan, not HS.

I looked all over AMD to determine the stock fan dimensions
and cfm to no avail-any ideas? I think the fan is 60mm x 60mm.

I thought about the adapter-60mm to 80mm but read over and
over this can cause problems due to restrictions of air from a
tunneling affect of the adapter on the air-reducing flow?????

Can I use any case/cpu fan as long as specs are same/better?

I dont want to pull the HS, just replace the fan with an equal
or better fan. What have you heard about using the adapter?

See that search bar on the left hand side? just make sure the size setting is at 60 mm, and any of those fans that's 60 mm will do you fine. If you're the utlilarian type, the higher the CFM (cubic feet per minute) is high. Like...I bet your standard one that you have is like...30-40. So that's your minimum. Anyways, You can play around w/ LED color and stuff, but i'm a no bells and whistles type of person so...
