Default Controlling fan speed?

So... I just bought a rig today, from a local feller for a very good deal.

Watercooled, Q6600 on a evga 780i in a Cosmos case.

Now, the sucker is loud as ****... I've tried to set the speed lower in bios, for the big 120mm fans on top... but, its not doing much at all.

A few are set with chassis, the top ones with the radiator are set on cpu fan I believe.

I've taken a look with Speedfan, and they're running around 3500rpm, isnt that fast for a fan of those sizes?

Its not a horrible amount of noise, but its just killing my zen.

Sounds like the fans are connected directly to the PSU. The only way you will alter their speed would be to install a fan controller.

The fans are actually connected to the MB. But changing the speed hasn't been possible thus far for some reason.

They aren't connected directly to the PSU.

Typically I think fan control settings will be under your PC Health or System Health in your BIOS. Smart Fan or something it's called, check in you BIOS, where it shows all your system temps and fan speeds, there should be a place to set fan speeds to manual or auto.

Eh, I just found out that the 780i boards don't support 3pin fans, which all of the cosmos are... so it defaults to max rpm no matter what.

I have to find a decent fan controller now, I guess.

Just watch the temps. The Q6600's get toasty after a while of use.

Cheers,
