Building a Server, looking for reccomendations

Looking for reccomendations for a Server to run a POS system for my Resturaunt.

I am going to run Windows 2003 Server.
I will be running three POS printers off the server via serial adapters.

The system will have 5-7 Thin Clients running the POS software connected to the Server via terminial services.

I will be running about 10-15 apps on the server plus 10-20 sessions. The POS, Firefox, Outlook, Excel, Streets & Trips, CC processing, security video monitoring software, etc. The POS uses alot of virtual memory, and has about 3-4 small sub-apps that run along with it.

I am going to build the system myself as the hardware is extremely overpriced from the POS Company.

The servers the sell are 2.4 P4, (2) 40 Gig HD, 512 MB Ram, etc.

I am looking for a little more processor speed and 1Gig of Ram. I don't need a huge case, I will only run one DVD-RW and no floppy or zip. Basically I need a case, mobo, porocessor, ram, vid, sound, HDD, DVD-RW, etc. I haven't built a PC in about 2 years so I am a little off my game on what it the latest & greatest hardware!

I am also looking for a some thin clients & 15" LCD monitors. IF anyone knows of a cheap reliable online vendor please link me up!

Servers need good cooling, air cooling will be fine.
For the hdd I would get a 80gb Maxtor, Segate, or Western Digital.

Memory would be corsair value select - a dual 512mb kit from newegg

Case- any old case that will fit the stuff and has plenty of places for fans

Dvd writer- from newegg that supports dvd+r and -r

vid- cheapest one on newegg -get the pci version so you dont make a mistake with the mobo

mobo- get a asus (known for reliability)

sound- mobo might include it (do you really need sound on a server?)

fans- any old fan -for a server you might want ball bearing, but sleeve will work just fine too

might i suggest going for an AMD xp mp processor setup? it would make for the best value and can use any socket A chips with simple modifications... i do believe ive seen boards that can run dual channel memory and all the latest features... and as for vendor go newegg for everything you can. i only suggest the xp mp chips because i do believe it is about the best price/performance you can get. better than early intel and alot cheaper than xeon/opteron platforms.

He wants a server, not a little home PC. He should go with a dual/quad Xeon system.

Tyan and Supermicro have some very good SMP boards. Server application's do get a high performance boost with SMP.

You didn't read again. Instead you are stating by making your assumed statements. I am not going to talk with someone who doesn't look at benchmarks and who doesn't READ.

First take a look at the three links above before you decide to post again.

ok for a resturant server you do not need quad or dual xeons. You could go with one single AMD or Intel. Personally, I love AMD, but I do not know which is better for a server (help?).
