Hello i am planning to build a gaming comp but need some help on what exact products to get. Heres the specs i want to use.

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
1 gig ram
128 or 256mb video card that works really good.(i dont know which one to go with)
Good sound card(Ditto)
A good motherboard that supports this.
Good case that supports the motherboard.

dfi lanpartys are good for overclocking and are real nice,
everyone including myself will say that you should go with an athlon 3000 or 3200 because you can OC them easily to 3700 and beyond lol
6600gt or 6800gt's are good cards, eVGA is known to make the best,
depending on your budget get either some Corsair(value) or OCZ Plats Rev 2(i love mine)
idk that much about sound cards but someone else will know a lot about those.

if you get the dfi it has pretty good onboard sound and you really wont notice the diff too much
get a 6600gt eVGA
get a 3200+ venice core oc like crazy
umm get any corsair or ocz ram
case wise look at lian li or thermaltake
look at the thread for byoc same section i had a couple links to good cheap cases

corsair is shit, ocz doesn't have anything good in his price range

AMD64 3200+ Venice (retail box)
DFI lanparty ultra-d
1gb twinMOS ram
seagate 80gig SATA HDD (more if you want)
NEC 3510A dvd-rw
eVGA 6600gt (6800gt would be much better if you can afford it)
OCZ Modstream 500W
any case you want

that's probably the best setup for your budget

Speak for yourself, also the DFI's sound uses CPU overhead
