For 1500 dollars.....Lets see.......

processer-amd athlon 64 3200+
mobo-dfi nf4 ultra
memory-OCZ or G.Skill RAM
video card-eVga 6800GT
PSU-Antec Neopower 480
Sound Card-audigy 2 zs
disk drive-NEC cd-rw/dvd-rw
Hard drive-2 80 gig western digital drives in raid 0
case- Anything you want really, if you want looks and performance get either thermaltake or aspire, i personally have an x-navigator.

You can get the above and more for under 1500 bucks. Maybe even upgrade to raptor hard drives and a faster AMD processer.

pc gamer, all from pricewatch.com

i own and read pc gamer magazines and i would never trust them with hardware recommendtion

you should get:

amd 64 3200+
dfi lanparty ultra-d
1 gig of g skill LD's
eVGA 6800gt pci-e
2x 80gig SATA hdd in raid0
NEC 3510A dvd-rw
for the case, it's your taste, IMO a $70-100 thermaltake is very nice
for the psu, it's either OCZ mod/powerstream 450, fortron bluestorm 500, or antec neopower 480

Wow, yeah PC gamer truly sucks for reccomendations, look at all that crap! 6600GT for a 1500$ computer? Plus a better PS and all that gaming pad crap and sound card is optional. A 6800GT is essential for a computer at that price...

before i knew anything about computers, i bought a piece of sh*t gateway for 2k bucks that was "top of the line" material. and guess what it came with?-- a geforce4 mx440 128 meg

I personally wouldnt go with Asus, had lots of problems with the ASUS A8V, Spent many hours angry just not worth the hassle, MSI or DFI
