I am not really ready to overclock yet. don't really know much about it yet...so I am starting slowly with other BIOS settings.

Looking at the CPU Features in the BIOS right now.

I have a couple features that are disabled right now:

Intel SpeedStep and Virtualization Technology.
My processor is a i7 950, and should be capable of both.

what are my advantages/disadvantages of having this disabled/enabled?

Going to intels site... obviously they only mention the advantages.

not sure if it matters but..
Computer usage: My son playing his game in the evening. me working on larger graphic files during day time hours. lots of multi tasking.

THANKS!!!

Virtualization technology enables the use of virtual machines, Speedstep is an energy saving feature. It basically lowers the CPU's clock/voltage when it's idle.

I would turn off Speedstep and leave Virtualization tech on.

This helped me with overclocking my i7 (when you want to get into it):

Thanks! I have a weekend with nothing to do. I may just learn about OC'ing a little.
