BIOS flash

I downloaded the bios flash software for my mobo, then ran the exe file and it went to a completely black dos screen, is this normal? After the screensaver came on I entered my windows password to get back in and then the black screen came up again.

What motherboard do you have, and where did you download the BIOS update from?

Gigabyte ds3 like what is in my sig, and I downloaded it from the gigabyte website, I ended the dos program now though since it wasn't doing anything.

There are several Gigabyte motherboard with 'DS3' in the model name. You need to be more specific. Examples are:

GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.0)
GA-P35-DS3 (rev. 1.0)
GA-965G-DS3 (rev. 1.0)
GA-945P-DS3 (rev. 2.0)
GA-945PL-DS3 (rev. 2.0)
GA-945P-DS3 (rev. 3.3)
