From an AMD press release:
Quote:
AMD plans to deliver to customers in mid-2007 native Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors that incorporate four processor cores on a single die of silicon.

Here's an article from Ars talking a bit about the quad, but it has no release dates mentioned:

i still dont even know why i would need quad cores. I can run a virus/adware scan, play BF2 and CS 1.6, and have multiple firefox tabs open at the same time with no trouble.

hehe when quadcores come out the dual cores will probably go down. that is when I will maybe upgrade to dual core. no one needs quad core right now unless you just wanna be on the bleeding edge. cool to know that is coming out soon though.

You can't say nobody needs quad-core. I'm sure there are plenty of people taxing their system who would take extreme advantage of a quad-core.

I think people stopped caring.

Intel beat AMD in more ways than one...
