My computer is a little loud, I was just wondering what makes it so loud? Power supply, graphics card, etc. What makes the most noise on average. Also if there are any tips on making whatever I have a little less noisy. thanks

The fans make all the noise. Get fans that are quiter, or you can get water cooling, which takes away two fans by itself. (CPU, GFX).

And if you can't do that, get some decent acoustic dampening material to line your case with. It's pretty cheap, look around on newegg or zzf for it.

Or you can just turn the fans down to a lower RPM, if they can still provide adequate cooling and circulation

That 120mm doesn't look like it moves much air.

Try this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811998121

I have it. It's cheaper, moves twice the amount of air, and it's not very loud (to me). I have like 5 fans in my computer, and all I hear is a low whoosh of air.

3 quickest ways to quiet a computer down, IMO:

1. Change the power supply to one with a SINGLE 120mm fan.

2. Cut out all fan grills on case with a dremel, replace fans with quiet rated models, be sure to use rubber grommets instead of normal metal screws.

3. Replace CPU HSF with a quiet aftermarket one, preferrably with a fan larger than 80mm.

My computer used to be loud. And I mean LOUD. I could be out in the kitchen making dinner and I could hear the roar of it. I did these three things, and I can barely tell the difference from my computer being on and off now.

EDIT: Also, hard drives can be loud. Suspend your hard drive in a 5 1/2" bay with some type of lacing so it is not contacting any metal, like so:

I like that harddrive idea. For quietness I'd tighten every screw in my computer to stop vidrations.

@ WorldIndustries: What size is the fan on a normal stock CPU? I got my X2 4400+ a few weeks back, and it idles at around 40C or a little below, stock HSF. What is a good fan to replace it with?

Also I was looking at replacing a few fans myself. My X-Blade case with blue LEDs has always been a little loud. Thanks for the links guys.

for blue led ones get the alphacool silenx, only 14db, but pretty good airflow, for the other fans, for anyother regular fans, get the akasa amber fans, really quiet, but has higher cfm than most fans ive seen of the same noise level, alos get dampaning lits for the psu, and the fans
