No, because soon with AM2 they will have what? AMD x2 5200+ processors right? Is there a 5.2ghz Intel processor to compare it to? No. So it's not an equal equality equivalency test.

It's different with a dual-core.

You're all wrong technically. AMD insists that the P-rating is an expression to represent what the core would be operating at if it was running at its "true" clock frequencies. You can say that yes a 3700+ is roughly the same as a 3.7GHz, but once you get into crap like 4400+ X2 you can see this doesn't really work

So what does AMD mean by "true" clock frequencies. I honestly have no idea. The easiest way to measure the power of a core IMO is the considering how many FLOPs it performs

It's a common question to see how an AMD CPU stacks up to an Intel. As gaara said, a 3700 is somewhat similar to a 3.7GHz Intel. It is difficult to compare because of Dual-Cores and because of other things that aren't apparant from looking at a clock speed, like cache, instruction sets, and the actual architecture of the CPU as well.

If you are looking to compare which CPU is 'better' than the other, look at benchmarks. Benchmarks are the only way to actually tell for sure, before buying, what chip to buy.

As for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, what intel processor would this be equal to?
