So I bought the 9800gtx+ yesterday on newegg. Unfortunately, it shipped and about an hour later this gtx 260 came on newegg. Not Oc'd (I dont think) and its only $250!!

Dang, mad about this. Coulda got a better card for $50 more.

But yeah just wondering and how much better is the gtx260 over the 9800gtx+ and how does the 4870 compare to all these?

I believe it would go HD4870X2, then gtx280, then hd4870, then gtx260, 9800GTX+, then hd4850. That is what an nvidia guy will tell you, some will argue that the ATI's are better but i've researched otherwise.

umm.... that list should go

4870x2 > gtx280 > 4870 > gtx260 > 4850 > 9800gtx+

that is really the only mistake..

i don't see what your change could be ??? hopefully not 4870 > gtx280

I've done quite a bit of research on GPU performance as does most people before buying new card & respectfully I disagree,I would agree with Thresh25.The 9800GTX+ beats the 4850 but if your after a slightly cheaper card then go for 4850.Check out these benchmarks & see for yourself 9800gtx+ vs hd 4850
They are both great cards but If I had to choose out of the two I'd go for 9800GTX+.As it turns out now you can get a 260 for a little bit more now anyway.I still think the prices need to be dropped on all Nvidia's, they cost way to much.I'd be a happy bunny if I could get a 280 for £160 or even a 4870x2 maybe next year.

apply 8x AA and then see where the 9800GTX+ stands...

I had a voltmodded 8800GTS 512mb at 900core 2.3ghz shader and with 8xAA it just choked. Now with my 4850 I can play with 8xAA and still get over 100-110 average in cod4 1680x1050 everything maxed

And to the OP, if you want then ship back the 9800GTX+ and get the 260. I would. It's a sweet card with much more potential and a longer lifespan.

I've done a bunch of research on it as well, and in my opinion, the list should be:

4870 x2 > GTX 280 > HD 4870 > GTX 260 > HD 4850 > 9800 GTX+

And if you wanted to put it in, the 9800 GX2 would be the one just above the 4870.

This is a good list: http://www.techist.com/forums/f76/graphics-card-rankings-139202/

But it's hard to compare between ATi and Nvidia. It depends on the game in most cases, and there's never a huge difference. It also might be more worth getting an nvidia if you picked out a motherboard with SLi, for example. Besides, both cards can easily play any game on the market, and both will be usable for years, so there should be no regrets in purchasing either. It also depends on resolution. I play on 1280 x 1024, so in my case, there wouldn't be much of a difference between any of the cards mentioned. I'm only going with the 4850, because the higher cards would honestly just be overkill and I'd feel like I wasted money.

And for benchmarking, companies should compare the cards with both resolution, and anti-alias, not just on one resolution with one set of settings on 4 randomly selected games.

Great thing about opinions everyones got one but yeah ya right it is hard to compare as its dependant on what games you play. Its funny you know I read so many threads where people are bickering over who's card beats who's.Not applicable in this thread but it does tickle me.Reason why I said this is because it made me laugh when the guy in that list you posted said don't come complaining to me that this card beats that card,he just knew that would happen!lol
