Default 6800GS running hot

My XFX 6800GS is about 47 idle ...but goes up to 77c after playing F.E.A.R. for awhile.

Should I back down the clock?

I've got one. They're good! Just make sure you get the model that fits. The alternative is the Zalman VF-700, which is probably superior t othe NV Silencer if you've got good exhaust fans. If not (such as in my case), the NV Silencer functions as an exhaust for you.

Cool I'll take that into consideration....although I think I may end up upgrading soon to a 7800gtx and another 1g of ram.

Clean around your fan, and maybe apply some AS5

pretty good. Wiring is all bunched in the front toward the drive bays and is pretty much away from the mobo/cards. Have a 120mm exhaust fan and 2 80mm intake fans.

In that case do what PZEROFGH said. Your temps are fine though.
