So I just got my new GTX 460 768mb for a good $145 deal and swapped my 9800 GTX+ out ( which I gave to a friend ). I know the performance between the two isn't that huge but I was shocked to see my 3dmark06 score only increased from 14538 to 15904 ( approx a 10% increase ). Does this accurately convey the real performance difference between the two or is something up with my 3dmark06 score or possibly gfx card?

I'm running 4 gigs of ram ( 3.25 recognized due to win xp 32 bit ) and a q6600 OCed to 3.0 ghz, the GTX 460 card is left at stock which is apparently boosted to 720/900

Okay, you should completely remove your drivers first with drive sweeper. Then stick them in.

See if that runs it better. I get like 14k on my q6600 and 1 260-216 at stock if that helps.

Thanks for the driver cleaner recommendation, fortunately I already tried that and always do clean video installs.

That score does help, was your q6600 at the stock 2.4 ghz to get 14k?

I asked around and I guess my score of 15.9k was relatively average for a GTX 490. I guess there just isn't that much of a score boost with it :-/ I'm also surprised you got the same score with the GTX 260 even though I knew it was only about 25% faster then the 8800 GTX ( though it can do anti aliasing much better )

No, mine is for 3.1ghz, and I'm believing it was stock on the 260. But it could be overclocked... it looks like it was at 705/1148/1230
ORB - Compare

I've gone as low as 11k and as high as 13.3k..

I hit 21K at 3.2Ghz and sli 260s tough :)

I just built a system with evagtx460 1gb 820/1690

with x4 40 @ 3.6ghz and got a score of 18232. CPU helps alot.

How much would a ssd improve my score?

SSD wont improve 3dmark score at all.

06 is a CPU dominant benchmark in which it will show you any kind of CPU bottleneck if any at all.

The higher you OC your CPU the higher your score will go. In this case you should be doing id say around 19k if you where around the 3.6 mark. My friends 1gb 460 with an i3 at 4.6ghz gets 24k. With a 4.2ghz i5 and my OCed 465 i get 25k just for a few ref numbers.
