USB mouse jumping across screen

Often my USB mouse, just jumps to a different region on my screen.

is there some bad software at work on my PC?

what surface is your usb mouse on? reflecticve surfaces can cause it to jump/not move

Is this a wireless or wired USB mouse? Optical or ball?

Try another USB port.

i am moving it on my desk, i dont see any dirt on the table which will make it jump like that.
it is an optical mouse.

i have moved it to a different USB port (how does that help though?)

my friend was telling me that the mouse can often go into sleep and then it resets itself which makes it recalibrate or something like that. basically it sends itself to 0,0 pixel position on the screen making that random jump. it could be that or i could be crazy or your mouse could be going. try using a mousepad and see if that helps.
