This may be a stupid question, but one I am rather curious about.
With my new PC build, I'll be adding a 250GB hard drive. It's been about 5 years since my last PC purchase, so I'm curious is partitioning a hard drive is still a common practice or necessarily needed anymore (with today's MOBO, processor, and hard drive technology).
I know that for some, they would partition their HDD with the OS on on partition and to save files / run applications on the other partitions. I believe this was done for performance purposes. For me, I partitioned my HDD just to keep things organized.
With today's HDD technology, is partitioning still commonly done? If it is still a common practice, for what purposes is it done? Does partitioning have performance improvement capabilities?
