I got this coworker's laptop at work, that won't boot up. It won't boot normally.
Safe mode crashes at mup.sys, then blue-screens and starts over.
Using the recovery console (with the Win CD) gets me onto the HDD, but when I try to disable mup, it says it can't find the registry entry...or any service entry for that matter.
A Windows repair says it can't repair without reformatting. There's some valuable data on the drive, so I don't want to do a reinstall of Windows.
I've tried slaving the drive to another computer, but the drive wouldn't even show up. Checked diskmgmt and everything.
This is tick'n me off. Technically we could probably send it to a DRS, but I'd rather not waste the money if it can be fixed locally.
Any thoughts?
