backup disc

can someone give me a step by step to creating a backup dvd (preferably) or cd for my computer.
i am trying to backup my documents and settings.
it copies fine into my documents, but when i try to move it to the disc it will not let me.
what am i doing wrong?

start>programs>accessories>system tools>backup
click next until it asks you where you want to store it and put it on your desktop, then let it run and copy that file to cd.

yeah, that's pretty much what i did... i saved it to my documents instead, copied it, tried "send to" cd drive, tried copy/paste to cd, still wont work.
i'll keep messin with it. ill figure it out sometime. anybody wants to help expedite the process, come on.

r u sure you have a CD-RW drive and a CD-R disk?

ummmmm....yeah.
i guess you wouldn't know i am not retarded, but yes i do.
i think i'm just gona buy a a) flash drive, or b) ext.hd.
