cause the prices are not confirmed yet and i don't believe anything on them until they are released. im hoping they are cheaper cause i don't see many people buying them elsewise.

and two years is too short. i want at least four like my current PC which won't be able to run better than dirt when the dx10 games hit.

Core 2 Quad's are much more expensive than Core 2 Duo's.
and the Core 2 Duo already has two cores, which will make it better in the future multi-threaded games anyway.

Quad core is defiantly better but the e6600 will be perfectly capable of playing any game. There is no reason to buy a quad core because by the time you actually need a quad core there will be way better quads out. Even if you played a game that took advantage of quad cores the e6600 would still be more than enough for that game. And when you need some more power just overclock the e6600 because odds are you'll get a good OC out of it.

He already talked about using a different vid card for now and updating later, so I see no reason to not just use a e6600 for now and upgrade when you actually need to.

Your right when you say I want a BEAST TO LAST, meaning I dont want to have to upgrade the sucker in 3 years, Graham is right, I use a cpu till its practically no longer usable. They last a long time.


The problem is this, the newest processors will always be expensive. Always. they'll come out with a 6 core processor and it will be the shiznit, ahead of its time and a hefty 1000 plus dollars for it. I dont want to spend that in 2008. It Freaking 2007 already!!

At the rate tech is going I was thinking about putting one foot in the door thats further ahead, from there I might even need to change the entire cpu again. Motherboard for the socket and the video cards are going to be like how the 128MB were 5 years ago.

But man, I want a break , the quads are freaking expensive, My budget is 3000, I want to cover the most important assets. Mother board, Processor FIRST. The ram I can upgrade, the video too.

I'm not rich here but i'm willing to invest. INVEST.

This is what I have so far. ItÂ’s a bit too expensive. IÂ’m paying for the Speakers and Monitor separately from dell. TOTAL is 655 $. Not Included in the price below.

Take under consideration the 100 dollar rebate on the sound card.

My problem is this, I want the bill from Newegg to be MAX, 2500. Straight. No gimmicks, No plus tax. Nothing. Can you help me with the numbers, take what you think I should save for later out, find a more economical replacement. Something. Remember to add the tax at the end, I donÂ’t know how much it is. Maybe I should hold off on the printer. This is all going on a credit card, not cash.

IÂ’d really appreciate this.
I think with the whole Core Dou Quad Core thing, IÂ’ll take my chances and upgrade to a quad later on, maybe in 4 years or so. When they wont be too expensive. What do you think? IÂ’m nervous about this decision.
