*cough* More money than brains *cough* .. if you are a college student who actually has 3 or 4 thousand dollars to spend than you are already filthy rich and don't need college.. leave that space open for someone else who can't afford to get a computer, so they can get a decent job. If you insist on spending such a foolish amount of money on the computer than just go nuts and get all the latest and greatest stuff.. there really is no limit to what you can get currently. Read some reviews on parts and pick them yourself. Don't leave picking $4000 worth of parts up to the general public, if that is what you are willing to do than you don't even deserve the end result.... unless it blows up in your face that is..

Wow, wow, wow. The guy just asked for our help, not to hear about why he shouldn't spend that much on a computer, if he's going to college and wants a computer worth that much, then let him. Who's to tell him he can't? Better still, who's to tell him he shouldn't, and then proceed to flame him and his lifestyle.

Mature...I think not.

But back on topic, I would go with Nukem's build. He has exactly what you'd need, plus you save some money too, so you can't complain there lol.

Jared, "Wow, wow, wow"... I don't care if he spends that much money or not. What I am saying is that he should be researching reviews and making his own informed decisions about his purchase. Not reading advice for builds made by people with no experience with the build they are recommending. If you have half a brain and are about to spend more money on a computer than some deprived families make in 4 months than you should read up on what you are doing. He probably doesn't even know how to change is screen resolution if he is on here asking about an ENTIRE $4000 rig.
-Back him up all you want but if you had $4000 to spend on a computer you know very well that you would not turn to people who do not have experience or knowledge of the parts they are recommending. Anyone can go on newegg and look for the most expensive stuff, that doesn't mean that he is getting his moneys worth though. For his needs it is not necessary to spend that much money anyways.. maybe he could use the remaining money from a perfect rig to take a course in how to build a computer or how to make the most out of a cheaper rig. I am sure that there are plenty of things that the extra $1000 can be used for other than computer accessories... not my money though.. just my rant.
-8800GTX or sLi 2
-C2D 6600 (oc)
-*read into good overclocking mobos*
-2 GB of any quality ram
-PSU with proper Amperage and 600W unless you sLi then look at something around 850W
-*the rest is all personal preference*

The above build would rip anything up that is currently on the market. After the above list you WILL NOT see any performance increase for anything. Those video cards will play any game now and in the future at highest resolutions with unbeatable frames/second. The 6600 overclocked is amazing and as long as you have some decent RAM (OCZ, Corsair, Kingston, Mushkin..etc..) than you will be very happy with the build and you won't even spend all your money.
**Just wanted to say that the Corsair Dominator RAM is supposed to be awesome!!! A 2GB kit would look really cool and the performance would be amazing as well**:beard:

That's so called for. *sarcasm*

Dave, after reading over your posts, I realize where you are coming from now. Didn't really think my post through. But the point still is, we aren't here to financially advise him. I appologize for my post, it wasn't necessary.

I was mearly trying to defend him, because he came here for help, not to get critisized(spelling?) about the way he wishes to spend his money.

Jared, it takes a bigger individual to apologize and I appreciate it. But yeah, you are right.. we aren't here to be financial advisors but it is frustrating to think that such an amount of money is going to be spent on a rig for someone who is really not even researching his components and merely relying on the forum community. But again, you are also right.. I'll calm down with the financing advice.. hehe

WizardTechie, why are you being sarcastic about my previous post? Are you trying to say that a Wizard like you would go and rely on a forum to build you a $4000 rig? ... some wizard.. *rolls eyes*

With that motherboard's audio chipset, you don't even need the audigy 2zs soundcard. Also, is it just me or is that DVD burner about $100 overpriced?

You mentioned that you wanted RAID 1 and when someone posted a build that included 2x500GB harddrives you said you didn't need a terabyte of data, well RAID 1 mirrors the information on both drives, only giving you 2 copies of 500gigs (which will probably only be around 450 when you partition it). Just thought I would clear that up for you.

I'm being sarcastic because that random outburst of "financial advising" wasn't called for. You totally bashed his lifestyle and his personal choices for no reason whatsoever. It's his money. Oh yea btw if I wasn't a "Wizard Techie" as you like to call me and didn't know much then yes I would come to a forum instead of building a piece of garbage computer myself and have things smoke and blow up in my face.

lol.. ok bright eyes.
-I didnt bash his lifestyle at all.. read my posting again if thats what it takes, and jared and I have already gone over the financial stuff.. so go pull a rabbit out of ure hardrive magic man
