so i just installed xp home. i wanted to see if i could dual boot w/ win 2000 pro or 2000 server ( if that's possible). w/ in xp, i put in a (burned) copy of win 2000 pro and it says that the os i'm trying to install is older than the one i have currently (xp) and that setup will be disabled. why is this happening? i tried to do the same thing w/ 2000 server and got the same prompt.
i also tried to boot from the cd but apparently u can't do that sort of thing. as you can see, i'm just learning all of this so cut me some slack on the ignorance
thanx

you have to install windows 2000 first and then install xp.

The general trend in dual booting is as follows:

oldest windows --> newest windows --> linux

Each creates a dual boot menu for the previous, so xp in your situation will create a menu for 2000. It is possible to do this the other way around, however seeing how you just installed xp, I suggest reformatting and do the install with 2000 first. Then install xp again.
