hi all. what to do whatto do...
i'm gonna upgrade my video card relatively soon...
is the extra money worth it for me to get the 8800? my screen res is 1280x1024....
i guess the 8800 will allow me to upgrade to a higher res monitor in the future...
any thoughts?

have you always used ubuntu or did you just start?

and to the thread topic-
if you have the money....get the 8800gts....no explaining required....:)

actually haha looked on newegg
check out the prices:

7950gx2:

8800gts:

gts is actually cheaper. hardeehar! guess that makes my decision easier.

also, the gtx is about 200 dollars more. the only difference that i note (at least on the main newegg page) is 575 mhz vs 500 mhz and 1800mhz vs 1600mhz. which i am sure is within easy oc ability of the gts to do that. are there any other significant differences?

No, I used to use Debian, and as soon as Nvidia drivers 9742 are in sid, I'm switching back to Debian.

7950GX2 and 8800GTS performs the same. In some games 8800GTS performs better and in other games the 7950GX2 performs better

But the 8800GTS is the better choice because it support newer technologies such as DX10, Quantum physics and 8800GTS can do AA and HDR at the same time

In you signature I see that you have 7900GS.

7900GS should run any game at 1280x1024 without problems, so I recommend to wait for geforce 8900 or R600
