Hi guys,

I am thinking about upgrading my brothers PC(right of sig, AGP, socket A) for Christmas.

I would want IT to play BF2 on max settings at 1280x1024, Without any lag.

I think a new mobo, processor and graphics card will do the trick, Maybe some more ram if the total cost is low.

What should I buy? (cheap as possible $) :D

Okay first off, i wouldn't put a micro-atx mobo in that pc.

Second hmm... What about a sound card? Most people don't realize that integrated sound can hurt FPS in games.

A couple dollars more, but I think he'd have more fun with these parts. But beware on the mobo, some of them seem ot have probs with some corsair sticks.

This is nearly identical to my friend's old setup. He was destroying FPS in shooter games with a wee bit of OCing.

I don't like the ATi's anymore. My X700 and X1900 series cards were a pain in the ***. When playing games in windowed mode I would gert problems. like when My wireless keyboard/mouse would show popups on my dersktop(for cappslock and stuff) the FPs would drop to 1FPS, the desktop lagged like that too. Any kind of popup(be it a yellow tooltip from hovering over an icon or whatever else) caused these problems. I dont know anyone who has had a problem with EVGA's 7 series cards though. Also, I tested out this system in WoW for sound problems. I had FPs problems with the ATi cards while sound was enabled. When I put in equivalent evga 7 series cards that problem wasn't nearly as bad.

Thanks for the advice guys

I guess a sound card would increase the fps But, You wouldn't notice it while gaming.

OK.... My brothers pc case is a "micro atx mini tower"? it has a micro atx mobo and full size everything else. He works out of state 5 days out of the week, So I want to keep the small case for easier transporting. Unless, there is something wrong with micro atx for gaming?

Is this what I should get him?

$68 mobo- BIOSTAR TForce6100

Ditch the sound card.

You NEED 2gb of ram to play BF2 at MAX settings without any hiccups.

It is a must.

Gotta agree with Lord Anthrax. BF2 loves its RAM. I use onboard sound... no problems.
