SATA HDD questions

I just installed my new SATA HDD. I also plugged back in my old ATA drive to boot up from. I want to put some files onto the new HDD from the old one but dont know how. Can someone tell me? Also, when i boot my computer, the SATA controller card says it detected the HDD on the primary channel but i dont know how to hook up my new SATA drive to be the primary master, so my comp will boot off it. I tried to do it in setup but with no luck. Thanks
