AMD is already well on the way to making true quad cores. quad core wafers have already been made; TheInquirer has seen one personally. this was a while ago aswell.

yes, this is true quad cores. four cores on one die.
this is not two dual core dies on one chip (like Core 2 Quad is)
That's what I thought the AMD quad core was supposed to be originally.

I hope that AMD pulls through, I'd really like to see them on top of Intel once again.

Heh, I wish. I have an old Dell at home that's S478 and could use a nice tune-up. :)

Also, if Intel achieves 45nm, not only will they be lower in temperature (Core 2 Duos are extremely cool compared to other processors), but they would also be cheaper to make, which in turn passes the savings to us.

I know AMD can pull through this, but they're a bit sluggish.
 
45nm will mean less power consumption and less heat. I don't think that smaller usually means a better OC.
