If he want an 8800GTS thats not to hard Meithan's build leaves him 140 bucks left in budget. The PSU is really good but thats alot and he can get one just as good for 30-40 bucks cheaper. Then theres 180 left. To upgrade to this he would need 225

yeah the mobo is crap (it mite not b the best out there but it would get the job done with minimum difference) i know that but actually it was 2 gig ddr2 i added that twice and yeah it was crappier ram than xms. i agree with you guys meithan's build is the best so far and i would reccomend going with the 8800gts unless you want to wait a couple months and get aatis r600 which, if it proforms like they say it should, will be a good deal better than 8800.

Meithans build is prob the best but i would reccomend going with the 8800 as deathhawk said or if you feel like waiting a couple months and getting the r600 instead. if it proforms as they say it should then it should be a good deal faster than the 8800. Thats my opinion.

and he may not even need a monitor. when you build a system the the components usually change on a budget if you need a monitor.

where's the ram and hard drive?

OK, this person could fit the 8800GTS into Meithan's build if they don't need to buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse or OS and are willing to get 1GB of ram instead of 2GB and upgrade to 2GB later.

The price will drop dramatically in the following months, much faster than the normal drop in computer parts prices. Get something like a 7900 for now, and get a GeForce 8 when it's at a reasonable price.

yeah, that's true...but if he's gonna wait for prices to go down he might as well just get a 7600GT like me...I have no problem running any game right now including Oblivion and he'd save $100 going that route.

also if he waits for prices to go down he might as well just get 2GB of ram and save up...i'm guessing that he's not gonna wait for prices to go down though...

It's really up to him. Where is he anyway??? He hasn't replied to anything we've said. On another thread (that died), he posted: "My budget is $1,400-1,500 and I need everything including monitor, keyboard etc."

Anyway, I've reviewed my build. I downgraded the PSU, downgraded the video card to a 7900GS (it still owns the 7600GT by 20%-30%), and added a Case, Keyboard, Mouse and Speakers, to complete the build.
