Pc crashes ingame

whenever i play C&C Generalz or css my pc crashes and my monitor turns off with no signal from tower... pentium 4 2.8ghz 1gb of ram and ati 9800,

Failing power supply, or something is overheating either GPU or CPU

i would be more inclined to blame an overheating/failing graphics card given the symptoms listed only include gaming, which is not THE most stress a pc will be under. given the monitor loses signal as well that seems the most likely case as obviously a graphics card will be under load during a game.

only happens when playin those 2 games, it lets me play anything else... overheating of graphic card maybe knwing that those are demanding games, as far as the graphic card handlin the game at all it ran them before with no problem,recently started doing it, i tried reformating and that didnt work

Change the thermal paste, it might of dried out and its causing the overheating.

it could of worked before but tthermal paste doesnt last forever!

hate to hijack a thread but i am having the same problem could it be the opposite too cold? or is that just laughable? running about 24c computer by window in northest east

To eliminate heat as an issue. Take A house fan,open the case blowing the fan on high strait into it. Play the games if it helps we know its heat..

more than likely something in your computer is overheating.

update the drivers. some times there will be conflicts between the drivers of your graphics card and the default drivers of windows.
