i didnt add cables, monitor, or a sound card. The graphics card was overkill i know you should go with something a little less expensive. This was just something fun for me to do during my second block class rather than pay attention. I think its a good build i would definatly buy it if i had 1400 in my pocket. The subtotal came to under 1400 but as i said no monitor etc. (or shipping)

Personally, I think you should get the 8800GTS. It's much more future proof, and right now you have the money for it. You don't need a high end sound card... and if you don't need a monitor, you'll be much better off

yeah...you've got a crap mobo, crap ram, and crap other parts too...good effort to fit in that GPU i'm not belittling what you did, but that ram and mobo should NEVER be used with the E6600. that's a complete waste. he could go with a E6300, a DS3 and better ram for the same price and have better performance...it really was a decent effort to get the 8800GTS in there but i would not suggest doing it.

It's under $1400, granted, but consider the following

1) Only 1GB of DDR667 RAM.
2) Cheap ECS motherboard.
3) No monitor, and that's at least an extra $150 if he wants LCD.
4) No speakers, keyboard or mouse, which could cost from $50 to $150, depending on what he wants.

Mine lacks case, keyboard, mouse and speakers, but they can still be squeezed into the budget. However, I have to admit yours is a good alternative.

The question here is: is a 8800GTS really worth it? Me, I'd rather get 2GB of RAM and better quality parts with a 7900 or 7950.

I'd say that this is the best build so far...I think you'd be better off downgrading to an Antec TruePower 550W and getting a better monitor or GPU though.

hmm...well i guess it's not gonna help that much unless you get it w/ the rebate cuz it's only $15 and that's not gonna help much.

Just wanted to tell you...if you get a 7900GT that should last you for a few years with pretty decent performance but expect to upgrade the GPU first over about any other part unless you want more hard drive space.
