Hi, I am upgrading my computer soon and need some help.

Im pitching everything in my computer except..

550Watt BFG psu (24 pin power connector)
A DVD drive and CD/RW drive (both IDE)
1600x Pro Radeon video card

I play on getting these items.
Amd 64 3200+ 2.0 GHZ
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535
Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144415
ASRock 939 ATX amd mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157097

Now here are the questions.

1. My PSU has a 24 pin power connector but the mobo has a 20 pin. Will I have to buy an adapter or can the 24 pin go onto the 20 pin and just not cover 4 pins?
2. The IDE connectors are all the way at the bottom of the mobo, will I have to buy a longer IDE cable to reach it?
3.
All I have to do is install of these items and:
a. put the mobo cd in?
b. turn it on?
c. let it finish its installation?
d. pop in windows cd? (windows xp pro sp1 bootlegged)

Not exactly sure about the psu, but I've never personally come across a 24 pin that wouldn't work on a 20 pin mobo like you've described. Just leave the last 4 pins hanging off the end.
As far as the IDE cable...it's tough to say, I think you'll be fine, though. If you're not, take 10 minutes to run to the store and buy one.
For the installation, do it like this:
1. Install Windows
2. Install Motherboard software (from the cd)
3. Install Windows Updates+Patches
4. All other Drivers
5. AV/other protection software

Lastly, I would highly recommend getting the 3700+ San Diego over the 3200+ Venice. Benchmarks are significantly faster and it's only $20 more.

Core2Duo is curently the fastest cpu line available, but they start around $200 for just the cpu. Get the Athlon 64 3700+ and you'll have yourself a nice system for your price range.
