I hope I'm not repeating this topic, I haven't found it after searching in the fourms.
Question:
If I am looking to buy a computer for multimedia, gaming, or basic word processing, and am wondering what companies would provide the most trust worthy and moderate price, around $500-1600. Companies like Alienware have a huge cost increase, is there a difference between companies?

Ok, as much as I hate dell they did just buy Alienware so if anything you're just buying the name there. IBM and HP I've never had any exp with.

here's the music, movie and photo desktops by dell

here's the 1 gaming machine they have

lastly, ibuypower lets you customize what you want in it while they build it. price range varies due to what you put in it.

personally, I build my own simply because you save a great deal of money rather then have some joe do it for you. then again, if you're not to confident in your computer abilities it'd be better to let them do it...or you can learn by the guide that's posted :)

Don't buy alienware... It's stupid, I wonder if they actually know how dumb they are?

I customized a computer, with the same specs as the one I am currently building, and my computer costed atleast $500 less.. Alienware is just the same hardware, over priced. Probably because it has a cool looking case, and the name is "AlienWare", they can boost the price up 400 bucks or so..

Also, all the sites you go to to customize your own computer have limited choices, and purposely make it that way so you don't spend too little money. It's just business, that's why building your own is the way to go.

If you are in to gaming, build your own, if your into word processing, get a laptop from Dell or HP. My dad just bought a new HP laptop like a month ago, and it is awesome. Very good. If you are into multimedia, you want something that will have a lot of storage, probably a Dell. Also, you probably want Windows Media Center.
