Now to answer the original question, intel core 2 duo, since you have a couple of core parts you should be able to squeeze a e6600 out of the budget.

Don't even bother addressing the AMD fanboys anymore, they themselves aren't even serious about what they say anymore. Any mention of AMD by them is an attempt to keep the name alive for the next two years.
