For my laptop keyboard, there are some keys that when i hit, some other characters came out like 1013 instead of the letter "c". i used the onscreen keyboard to type instead and it worked well. i also plugged in an external keyboard to replace the laptop keyboard and it's fine.
but subsequently, the same problem with the laptop keyboard appears in the external keyboard on and off( weird characters). Now the onscreen keyboard would not work at all and my laptop's keyboard is nt responding at all , nothing comes out when i type all the keys. the technician says there's nothing wrong with the laptop keyboard, is it the motherboard? if yes, would the whole motherboard have to be replaced?

If this is the case then I'd say it's the motherboard too. There's not really any way to fix a bad mobo other than replacing it unless you're under warranty from the manufacturer.
That said, motherboards are hard enough to replace and even worse on a laptop. What model do you have?
