Okay, here's the deal. I have a 160G SATA hard drive. I've just done a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. Loaded MS Office and a few other small programs on it. I now go into My Computer and see that I have already used up 11.9G of disk space on C drive. However when I actually go into the C drive check, everything only adds up to 4.9G. I made sure I showed all hidden files and included them too. What is taking up the extra 7G?

Another Note, this happened to another computer that was using SATA drive.

Thanks in advance.:(

Windows does not show all the files even if you have selected show hidden. Most of these files, if not all of them, are core OS files but they are just not added when you manually go and check file sizes.

thanks. i figured out what was taking up so much disk space. it was the system restore. turned it off and turned it back on. pc was set to use over 8Gb for system restore.

Here you go.
