What on earth is this contraption?

I bought a Hard drive on eBay a few days ago, but it has yet to arrive. It was a 250GB diamondmax with 16mb of cache. I was looking at some pics of the listing and saw this thing protruding from the back of the drive. does anyone know what it is?

wow, that is weird, it looks like it can comeoff though, i see clips for it... as for what it is... i dunno?? beats me, maybe just for protection for the connections i guess

looks like it was in some sort of rail system, like servers have, but not like anything I've seen before. Maybe it came from an external HDD storage array? Hopefully it will come off so you can use it as a normal PC HDD.

it definately looks like a server array connector, one that had multiple drives. should just pop right off when you get it. just make sure to set the drive back to master instead of slave, unless you are going to RAID it.

edit* yay i was right!!!... i though ive seen these at my dads work where the servers were connected

agreed... it's a server hot-swap disconnect. you can take it off and use it as normal
