Problems re-formatting. HELP!!!

I am currently re-formatting my computer to reinstall Windows XP. I looked up a guide on how to reformat, and I am currently on the step where my computer is "Formatting the Partition", and the progress bar has been sitting at 0% for close to 25 minutes. I am not sure if it's supposed to take that long or if something has gone wrong and I have to restart.

Any help would be appreciated.

try preforming a low level format instead and then repartitioning then installing. use Maxtor Powermax.
