I've worked hard and saved up about $1,400 for a new gaming pc for myself, my family's computer (AMD Athalon 1.4 ghz, Radeon 7000, 384 MB Ram) isn't quite able to run any games less than 4 years old, but the problem is I don't know much about building a system other than buying the parts separate is much cheaper and more efficient than buying it all together.

My budget is $1,400-1,500 and I need everything including monitor, keyboard etc.

That looks pretty good to me. Personally, I would go with a couple of different brands, but that is really up to preference. Logitech keyboards/mice are really high quality, although a bit more expensive. I have a wireless keyboard and G7 mouse--I don't think I've changed the batteries in the keyboard since I put them in (1 year ago). Those speakers he has recommended are the same ones I have, and they are great in my opinion.

You could probably get an even faster processor for the price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103751
It is currently on backorder, and has received a lot of good reviews.

I'd personally go with an Antec (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129017) or a nice Gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811233013), or maybe a Cooler Master (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119074) if you are looking for a less expensive case.

I haven't had much experience with that brand of monitor though.

Will this run HL2, FEAR, BF2 and other new games on high settings with a good frame rate (above 50)? I'm thinking about upping to 2 gigs of RAM.

oh yes... it'll run anything you throw at it... the reason I suggested the CPU I did is due to the 1MB L2 cache. It's over all faster that the 512kb cache. the Ghz speed can be tweaked to the 4600 and beyond if you wanted it. 2GB of ram would be a good thing... plus it'll give you room to work with future parts/software. good call...

instead of going AM2, i'd go for a conroe system, for $1400 you could build one kick *** computer.

plus a $190 conroe will beat almsot ANY amd processor stock and all but the fx-60(or 62?) and higher with a little oc'ing.

Um maybe the evga 7900gs with the rebate and a e6300 conroe with a gigabte ds3. Also get 2gb of ram with like 3-3-3-12 timings or something within decent specs of that. Also like a hiper 580w psu and a case like a cooler master centurion 5. I would also try to shoot for like a nice 19" viewsonic monitor or some reputible company. The high end wired logitech mice are decent and I would get a illuminated saitek keyboard. Im running late for something or else I would put links.

Yeah you could go with an Intel processor...for me again, it's really just a personal preference. And I have stock in AMD, so I try to support them. Nukem's right about the Opteron though, they overclock great. But you might not want to have to deal with that (are you building the system yourself or are you having someone else build it?).

2GB of RAM would be a good call as well. If I was building a computer right now, I would probably go with this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590

About the monitor: Like I said, I haven't heard of that brand. Pepsiboy recommends a ViewSonic; that's what I have right now. It came with 2 dead pixels, but that's not too big of a deal. I would go with a nice widescreen because that's what I wish I had done. Nonetheless, this looks like a pretty nice one:

It looks like that PSU according to NE has been "deactivated"? You might want to try this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103932

I haven't had any problems with that one before. I like one of their other models more, but it looks like it is on backorder. Antec's also come out with a couple more I haven't used before--they might be worth looking into in greater depth:
