i just got a new motherboard and it says *pci-e x16 (max x4 mode)

does anyone know wat that means?

it means that your motherboard manufacturer is cheeky. the pci-e slot on your motherboard is physically an x16 slot (on google you should be able to find pictures to compare the different slots, the difference is in the length). however it only has the bandwidth of an x4 slot, in other words it will work with anything that will fit in an x16 slot but at x4 speed instead of x16 speed.

that's more than cheeky, that's ****n dodgey. that's slower than current AGP... i'd be awful ****ed off if they did that to me

Yes you got ripped mate, thats a bit fatser than PCI. You should go buy a new motherboard if you wish to use your card to its full potential
