Computer hangs with an IDE

iv got a A8N-E Asus motherboard and have 2 sata hdd but when i unplug the satas and plug an IDE hdd in primary master the computer seems to hang at the startup and at post
iv flashed my bios and that didnt seem to work its only when the IDE is pluged into the computer otherwis it is fine
please help

Is it set to SATA? Or IDE? If it's set to SATA, it will take longer to recognize the IDE drive because it will check for SATA drives first.

Sorry is what set to sata? do u mean if the raid is enabled.
if so it is not enabeled. and all the satas are unpluged

My question is, why do you care about booting with an IDE, if you have two SATA's?

I need linux for my exams and i had an 80GB IDE so i wanted to put it on that hdd

Try if resetting the CMOS helps.

You don't need to disable the SATA drives to boot from the IDE drive. You could either setup a dual-boot configuration, or you could change the primary HDD in BIOS...just to make it easier on you.

i did a dual boot but its the fact that it is slow to boot with an IDE in without its fine i just disabled the satas to see if it was the satas making the computer hang with the IDE or if it was just the IDE. but it still hangs with just the IDE so now i no the satas have nothing to do with it.

Yes, that's the same.
