Searching is a good thing, but a 5 seconds run down:
For CPU Intel is currently the best performer with their Core 2 Duo. Sometime next year they will release quad core but this isn't anything to get too worried over due to the lack of multi threaded apps.

Nvidia is releasing the 8 series in a matter of weeks (well a month or so) ATI will follow when Vista is released early next year.

Don't go cheap on a PSU.

So how much do you have on hand to spend?

See its another tough time to buy you could wait for the nvidia G80 out soon and also nvidias 680i chipset which might have 3 slots 2 for sli 1 for physics card in future.

best to go with Intel core 2 Duo E6600 and 2 gigs of ram. Also with that much money through in a sound card X-fi most likely.

So come back with more info on how much and if you want to wait or not to buy.

well i wouldnt really want to spend more then £3,000 maybe around £2,500.
i want a gameing/performance computer,
and i thought the quad cores were coming out in november :( .
i dont really want to wait to long for my computer,

what do u think of getting two geforce 7950GS in SLI??

or should i wait abit

help me !!! :)

thanks

if it is possible can u give me a list of all the components recomended :)

Quad cores are out in november but its the extreme edition the ones out next year are cheaper but not by much! :)

Im in work at the moment so dont have much time to browse for parts and doing such an ultimate build is harder for me than doing a cheapo one lol

if you could wait till the nvidia g80 is out might be worth it but up to you. otherwise go with 2 7950GT`s in sli.

Sorry, I didn't make it very clear above.

Do you need monitor, mouse keyboard, windows etc? Or just the box?

The 2 hdd are to go in RAID 0. If you don't mind a very slow write time RAID 5 produces the best read with the security of a redundant hard drive. In which case get 5 160gb disks.

The GX2 is there really to represent the G80. You will have to be quick off the ball if you want to ensure one before Christmas though.

Now, if it was me (and keep this in mind that it is my opinion) I would not spend any more than this on the main hardware. With another £1500 to spend I would complain to Dell and get their 30" wide-screen at the US price aka £=~2$ and not "£=$" so around £800 for that otherwise do the same for the 24" one. Add on a good set of speakers, an MX518 and a nice keyboard. Otherwise I will be happy to go crazy and spec up a £3000 'just the box' system. :)

Where did you get this ram from:

MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
£164.99 £164.99

because thats cheap for pc6400 and 2 gigs!! especially in the present DDR2 market.

also yes wait for G80 if you can if you CANT then i wouldnt get a 7950GX2 iv known a few people with problems just not working in motherboards at all or driver problems. Best to stick with 7950GT in sli.

loooool VAT

nah i dont need a mouse speakers keyboard etc

i jst mainly want the actualy specs and casing :)
lool cant leave out the VAT ;)

thanks

what website did u find all of them components ??

any idea when the G80 is suposed to be released??

Go on trifid SPEC ME UP TO £3000 w00t!! hehe :D

http://www.overclockers.co.uk is the website he used.

G80 to be released before Christmas I believe.

A few things i'd like to add

are you going to use Vista? (save around £300? if yes)

do you want a sound card? (I always use onboard)

the system Trifid picked for you is a great setup and will be a great gaming system. Spending an extra £1500 wouldn't give you much more preformance for the price imo. I'd just build it, test it out and find out if more is needed then you can always add another card in sli or improve what you think it is lacking.
