Gateway 500x Desktop Computer

Howdy,
This is my dad and mom's computer and when I try to shut it down or reboot the computer, it seems like it takes a while to shut down and reboot. Should I open the computer case and clean out all the dust thats inside of it? The computer system is a Gateway 500x 1.0 gig of memory Windows Xp Home. Please let me know. Thanks Jamie (21)

How long are we talking about here? At which points does it seem to "hangup" while shutting down and starting up. You can make several changes that may make an incredible difference in shutdown and startup times. But, it'll be good to know the answers to the above first.

Its starts when I reboot and turn on the computer when its shut off. Its been starting this since last week, I run norton antivirus and nothing pop up's from a virus, i delete all the cookies and etc, still doesnt solve it

try doing a repair-install - there may be corrupt files leading to the slowness/hangs
or it may be spyware - download Ad-Aware 6 and see if it makes any diffeence
there may be some startup/shutdown diagnostic tools

I use ad-aware on my notebook and my dad's computer and we hardly ever had much of spyware or anything like that, can someone suggest a good windows washer and computer cleaner?

Please do this. Click here: http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe to download Hijack This. Save it to itÂ’s own folder (not temporary files or the desktop).
Close all open windows and open HIJACK THIS. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and save it to NotePad. Copy the entire log and paste it here.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET

, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the scan and advise.
